« A ma naissance on m'a appelée Rakia. C'est un nom que j'avais oublié depuis le temps. Comme souvent la vie s'était chargee de recouvrir la personne que j'avais été par une autre, puis une autre encore, m'éloignant toujours plus du premier cri. Un jour, dans le désert de ma Normandie d'adoption, j'ai écrit quelques chansons. Je hurlais Rakia, c'était soul, même si mes références sont plutôt du cote de la chanson francaise ou du hip hop. Assez vite j'ai eu l'occasion de faire des premières parties d'artistes connus : Ben l'oncle soul, Susheela Raman, Fauve, entre autres. Pas mal pour une gamine de 19 ans à peine sortie de sa chambre! J'ai de la chance, ésperons que cela continue ! »

‘At birth, I was named Rakia. It’s a name I had ended up forgetting. As it often does, life had decided to cover the person I was with another, and then another, taking me ever further away from the first cry. One day, in the desert of my new region of Normandy, I wrote a few songs. I was screaming for Rakia, it was quite soul although I’m more influenced by French chanson and hip hop. Quite soon, I had the opportunity to open for renowned artists such as Yaël Naïm, LEJ and JAIN, to name but a few. Not too bad for a 20 year-old kid, just stepping outside of her bedroom! I’ve been lucky, let’s hope it lasts!’
