The Mauskovic Dance Band from Amsterdam is a musical family in every sense of the word: not only are four of the five members actually related by blood, but like any true family, they’re constantly in motion. Since 2017, they’ve been crafting foggy rhythms and percussive grooves rooted in dub, evolving a sound that is both hypnotic and dancefloor-ready.
Early on, the band fused their love for Afro-Caribbean polyrhythms with a no-wave aesthetic, creating their own brand of chaotic dance music — a unique sonic experiment first captured on 7-inches released via Geneva’s Bongo Joe Records.
Their talent caught the attention of UK label Soundway, leading to an EP and their self-titled debut album in 2019. Armed with hypnotic grooves and razor-sharp arrangements, they quickly earned a reputation as a fiery live act, touring from Russia to Mexico and across Europe’s top festivals.
Pushing their sound further, the group dove even deeper into a world of spring reverbs and dub echoes, refining a post-punk-inflected aesthetic inspired by sound system culture. In 2020, they dropped Shadance Hall, a four-track EP — dub versions included — on Dutch tastemaker label Dekmantel.
